Final Project

Final Project - Catnip. Used Adobe After Effects, Illustrator. I played the footage backwards this time so there are multiple cats in the frames. While I didn't get to adjust the camera so it's not as shaky or jerky, having the extra cats and movements makes it a bit less jarring in my opinion. I really like the final outcome of it.

Animatic

The Animatic for my Final Project. The actual animation will not appear exactly as the storyboards depict - due to my cat being a diva and not taking direction, even with the promise of turkey. Also, the scenery will be different as well because I have moved apartments since I drew these up.

Final Project Production Schedule/Timeline

March 14th - Present to group
March 17th - Take advise into consideration and make changes where needed
March 21st - Begin filming and possibly start roto process (if I go that route)
March 28th - Have majority of images drawn over. Or have completely finished with the stop motion action.
April 4th - Have all images drawn over. Or, begin editing the stop motion video with music.
April 11th - Put in music. Edit music to fit the video.
April 18th - Utilize After Effects for finishing touches. 
April 25th - Finish the video to present to the class. 
May 2nd - Finish any last additions needed to be made and finish to turn in.

Final Project

For my final FST333 animation, I'm planning to either use stop motion or rotoscoping to create a music video.

The song choice I've planned to use is Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit." In the video, as the music plays we open up to a house cat eating at her food dish in a dark and human-free living space. As the music progresses, we follow the cat as she explores her habitat. We'll see her jump from the floor to the kitchen counter and discover a bag of cat-nip that she'll proceed to dig through and ultimately ingest it. Once the cat-nip takes effect the scenery will change and the background will become crazily colored and the cats eyes will get larger and ordinary pieces of furniture and appliances found around the living space will become distorted in some shape or form. By the end of the video the cat will seek solace in her cat condo away from the craziness that has become her home.

If I use rotoscope I will film my own house cats movements around my apartment to get not only the setting but also the motions of the animal as it would actually move. (However, I will not make her actually ingest cat-nip). After the rotoscoping is done, I'll use effects from After Effects to make the furniture/appliances move or distort themselves make the cats eyes larger and add effects to the background. While rotoscoping will take a significant amount of time it may be the better option to really capture the motions. 

If I use stop motion I will use my apartment as the setting still but instead of my actual cat use a cat plushy I own and take photos that will progress into my video. I will still use After Effects to add extra effects to the video and get the crazy feel I'm going for with the video. 

I do not have storyboards up at this time but by 3:00 tomorrow I will have them up. Hopefully a visual image will help understanding the idea I'm going for. 

Rotoscoping Project Take 1.Very basic. Other than the puppet tool used on the "worms" just Photoshop was used to draw over each frame. The portion of the sentence I had from "Your Exquisite Corpse" I had was "The eagle argued the wiggliness of his stool worms."

Rotoscoping Project Take 2. Used the shape tools from After Effects this time and added a shooting star and gave the skull some flashing eyes for a little more flare.

Rotoscope Design Plan

The bear bleated endlessly on the beauty of his nesting lice, how they did so sweetly breakdance and sing a forties show girl chorus, and the eagle argued for the wiggliness of his stool worms, and so the bear came to lead the wood land chorus.

Between my partner and I, I am in charge of the Eagle and his worms portion of the sentence.
